Description
“Of the many fine Divisions that served under me in the Second World War, none were finer than the Highland Division.” (Field Marshal Montgomery)
The 51st Highland Division was looked upon with admiration throughout the Allied Armies for the part they played in both World War I and World War II. But in Scotland it has become a very potent symbol of national pride and the exploits of which made up this famous Division are part of the very fabric of the country.
This outstanding history was written by JB Salmond and first published in 1953. It was also republished in 1995 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of D-Day. This welcome new edition, which includes material about World War I by Neil Munro, must appeal to all those who love their country and want to read more about these brave men.
Dr Tom Renouf has updated the subsequent history of the Division to 2013. He has recorded the many poignant occasions when the veterans of the Division paid tribute to their fallen colleagues at memorials throughout Europe. The accompanying photographs confirm the deep loyalty of those who fought and the descendants of the civilian populations of the towns and villages which the 51st Highland Division liberated.
